Mercenaries are King

Chapter 17 Let's Talk Cooperation

Chapter 17 Let's Talk Cooperation

At this moment, Lu Chen's mind raced. He felt that he had once again fallen into a trap, and one he could not escape.

"Lu Chen, don't worry, I won't kill you. Sit down and let's continue our conversation," Adile said with a loud laugh.

Lu Chen did not sit down, nor could he. He was not one to sit and wait for death.

"Tell me, what do you plan to do?" he said coldly.

Seeing that he didn't sit down, Adile stood up and said with a smile, "I wanted to kill you, but I didn't. Besides, you helped me, so I came here specifically to thank you and, incidentally, to discuss a collaboration." After she finished speaking, she took the black box and opened it with a snap.

Lu Chen frowned. He saw that the box contained neatly stacked US dollars, at least two million. Such a lot of money would make most people's eyes light up and they would be overjoyed.

But he couldn't be happy. The money wasn't easy to get, and he didn't understand what she was saying. How could he be the one helping her? It all seemed a bit strange.

He didn't take the money, but looked at her and said, "Please explain yourself clearly."

Adil suddenly realized that the boy didn't know the truth. She didn't mind telling him. She smiled and said, "Ibn is already seventy years old and his health isn't very good. His only adult children are me and Alz. The other children are all around ten years old and can't help at all. So, only the two of us will inherit the reins."

She paused for a moment and continued, "Now that Alz will have no descendants, and I won't let him go back alive, you tell me, if I'm the only one left, won't the government forces fall into my hands?"

Lu Chen finally understood. The werewolf mercenary group had inexplicably helped her. There was no right or wrong on the battlefield, but getting involved in the internal struggles of another country was absolutely taboo. Even if he didn't want to continue being a mercenary, he knew the danger of doing so.

He shook his head and said, "We're just doing this for money, we're not interested in your power struggles. Since you're rewarding us, we'll accept it." He then closed the black leather case and took it.

It would be foolish not to take money, especially since these people's money was ill-gotten; he just took it without thinking.

Adila was in a good mood when she saw Lu Chen accept the money, thinking that he had accepted her. She took two steps forward again, her pretty face slightly flushed, and said with a smile, "Lu Chen, am I pretty?" After she finished speaking, she blinked her beautiful big eyes at him, showing her feminine charm.

Lu Chen couldn't help but take two steps back. What was she doing? Was she trying to seduce him? This wasn't right. Did he have that much charm? He was just an ordinary, poor security guard.

He quickly coughed twice and said, "Beautiful, but it's not appropriate to say that at this time."

"Do you like me?" Adile continued, then suddenly stepped forward and reached out a hand.

Lu Chen instinctively stepped back, dodging her hand, and nodded, saying, "You're very beautiful, but I don't like you." These were his true feelings; he didn't want to live with such a scheming woman—it was too terrifying, and who knew what this woman was up to?

Adile was somewhat displeased, but she still looked at Lu Chen and said, "I need your help, and if you can help me, then Maisan Province will be yours."

"No, we're mercenaries, we only do things for money," Lu Chen quickly waved his hand and said. He had never thought about living like that; who knows if it would be a good thing or a bad thing.

"Okay, I'll give you a task: ten million US dollars a year, be my husband's part-time bodyguard," Adile said seriously.

"No, no, I can't take this mission. Please find someone else," Lu Chen said hurriedly. After saying that, he picked up his suitcase and turned to leave. He didn't want to live in this country long-term. He had parents, a sister, and relatives. He wanted to go back home.

"We'll meet again soon, you can't escape my grasp," Adile shouted.

Lu Chen almost fell over. This damned woman, how could she have taken a liking to him? It must be Mike, that guy sold him out.

He ran all the way and soon arrived at where Mike was hiding. He put the box on the ground and shouted, "I'm going back to China. I'm leaving today. I don't want the transfer. I just want this cash."

"Chen, what happened?" Mike asked hurriedly.

"It's alright, I need to go back to China immediately." Lu Chen said loudly again. Now that he has money, why stay in this country? Besides, no one can predict what will happen next. He might lose his life here. He is not afraid of death, but what will happen to his family after he dies?

Mike frowned. He looked at the black box, hesitated for a moment, then opened it. He was shocked by what he saw. There was so much money, a full two million. But did Lu Chen really want to leave just for the money? He didn't believe it.

He patted Lu Chen on the shoulder and said, "We still have time to talk about what's going on. Even if you wanted to leave, you can't leave today. You've lost all your documents. We need to go to the Chinese consulate, which will take several days by car to reach a neighboring country. And even if we get there, you won't be able to leave without any documents."

"There's another problem. Even if we can go back, we can't bring the US dollars back. We can only transfer them to a domestic account in China through a third party. Do you understand?" He paused for a few seconds before continuing.

Lu Chen plopped down on the ground, covering his face. What the hell was going on? A failed mission had ruined everything. But he was not resigned to it. Even if he couldn't go back, he would transfer the money back so that his family could live a good life.

He didn't want to reveal that Adil had given him a mission. After thinking for a moment, he said, "Alz is seriously injured. Adil won't let him go back alive. Ibn has already held us accountable for this."

Mike couldn't help but laugh out loud twice, and said with a smile, "Chen, is that all? What are you afraid of? If the sky falls, we'll hold it up together. Besides, things may not be that bad. Rahman is still alive, and Ibn won't be so arrogant."

"Alright, stop thinking about it, we should go back to the village." Mike patted Lu Chen on the shoulder and said with a smile.

Lu Chen was surprised that Mike was so calm. He wondered if he was overthinking things, or if Mike had become bolder.

At this moment, Alex, James, and Anthony arrived with twenty security guards. Alex put his arm around Lu Chen's shoulder and said, "The battle is over. Let's go back to the village and have a good celebration."

Lu Chen carried the black suitcase and followed them forward somewhat blankly.

Adile and his men left, leaving the village in a state of chaos. Lu Chen and the others returned to the village's original underground vault.

Now that he had money, he could do anything as long as he spent money. Mike gathered all the security guards together and threw a wad of US dollars at each of them, totaling two hundred thousand dollars.

He shouted, "Faisal, you are responsible for gathering all the village's security guards and villagers. Your task is to collect and bury all the bodies, and to store all weapons, equipment, and ammunition in the underground vault. One hundred dollars per person per day."

Faisal gave a loud reply and turned to leave with his security guards.

Mike waved to Lu Chen and the others and said, "Get some rest today. Tomorrow we'll go to the Allied base and divide the money."
