Chapter 1287: Whether or Not There’s a Child, I Will Take Responsibility
The door closed.Zhi’er heard Feng Fuce’s footsteps approaching.
She buried her head under the blanket, now genuinely crying out of embarrassment.
"I’ve become stupid," was Bai Zhi’er’s first reaction.
Then, choking back her tears, she said, "How can I face people now!"
Feng Fuce stood outside the canopy, his voice and tone clearly much more relaxed and joyful than before.
"The door is closed. Can I lift the curtain and have a good talk with you?"
Zhi’er let out a sound of agreement.
Only then did Feng Fuce open the curtain.
He sat on the edge of the bed.
Zhi’er was sitting with her eyes red from crying.
Feng Fuce instead smiled lightly: "It’s not a miscarriage, it’s good news."
"You’re not embarrassing yourself, because only I know, the midwife and doctor definitely won’t spread the word."
Zhi’er was too embarrassed to look at him.
Turning her head, she murmured through her tears: "If I had known it was my period, I wouldn’t have made a fuss about it being a miscarriage, almost forcing you to be a father..."
The more Bai Zhi’er thought about her actions earlier, the more she felt embarrassed and humiliated.
Feng Fuce couldn’t help but chuckle softly.
He stepped forward and held her hand: "What’s wrong with that? Whether or not there is a child, I will take responsibility."
"Besides, I don’t want you to miscarry, not because I’m worried the child might not be mine, but because miscarriage is harmful to the body."
"Periods are unavoidable. It was the cold tea you indulged in last night that was wrong."
Feng Fuce’s comforting tone gradually soothed Zhi’er’s heart.
She stopped crying and raised her reddened eyes, gazing at him with teary eyes.
That gaze made Feng Fuce feel a lump in his throat.
Zhi’er said: "It’s not without any gain, at least I know you always come to see me while I am asleep!"
Feng Fuce was taken aback, then his lips curled into a smile.
Just then, the housekeeper returned to the door and said outside: "Marquis, the medicine has been prepared, and someone has been ordered to brew it."
"Before leaving, the midwife said that for Miss’s situation, it’s fine to use some fine cloth as padding."
"I’ve also instructed the servants to prepare it properly."
Feng Fuce replied calmly: "Leave it at the door."
A moment later, a servant placed the finest cotton silk at the door and retreated.
Feng Fuce brought it in and let Zhi’er lay it herself.
The medicine was brewed soon after, and Feng Fuce coaxed Zhi’er into drinking it all.
Though the medicine was bitter, once it warmed her stomach, Zhi’er indeed didn’t feel any pain.
Feng Fuce sat by the bedside and asked her, "Are you hungry? Shall I have them prepare a table of food to nourish you?"
Zhi’er hadn’t even nodded before Feng Fuce was already getting up to go to the door and give orders.
After a while, Zhi’er heard firecrackers going off in the distance.
It seemed like fireworks were everywhere.
She hurriedly asked, "Has it passed midnight!"
Feng Fuce glanced at the water clock: "Yes."
Zhi’er lifted the blanket, intending to get out.
Feng Fuce pressed her back down.
He raised an eyebrow: "What are you doing?"
"The time is about to pass, the temple will ring the bell on the hour, I want to go out and see," Zhi’er pleaded.
Feng Fuce refused: "No, the midwife just said you shouldn’t catch a chill, just watch from inside."
Zhi’er pouted.
She simply didn’t insist.
From her sleeve, she felt around and pulled out a thick Red Envelope, handing it to Feng Fuce.
"Brother Fu Ce, here."
"I’ve prepared New Year’s money for you. In the coming year, may all our wishes be fulfilled."
She squinted her eyes and smiled.
